How the Internet and Technology Have Changed Our Personal and Business Lives

The world has truly come a long way through the years. We have grown from a quiet grouping of societies into a global community ready to connect with each other. We could not have achieved this without the invention and implementation of the Internet. With uncountable technological improvements since its inception, the Internet has become an integral part of our lives.

I grew up in a time where phone numbers only had seven digits. I never heard of a computer until I went to college. Even so, during this time period, the army was inventing a communications system that would become the Internet we know today. In spite of the time period of my upbringing, I can't imagine not having this amazing technological invention in my life.

How far have we come since the invention of this ultimate means of communication? We have gone from computers the size of buildings to computers that fit in our hands, and work a thousand times faster. That's pretty big, when you consider the expanse of history as a whole. In only thirty years our society has expanded its knowledge far beyond anything we could have imagined.

The Internet was implemented in the 1970s as an Army communication system. It continued to be upgraded and evolved into a global network. Finally, in the early 1990s, it evolved into the first version of what it is today. With commercial endeavors and the advent of the first Internet Service Providers, we started on a journey that has not ended.

One tremendous sign of how far we have come is the immediacy of available news about death of pop icon Michael Jackson. In less than a generation we have come from waiting to watch war footage on the nightly news to tracking information in real time on an endless number websites. We are able to research almost anything and get fast results.

Alongside the growth of the Internet was the development of the computer world. From the initial computers housed in the science buildings of universities, we built ever better and faster as well as smaller. Now we have tiny computers that run faster than those behemoths in our past. Even our phones are computers now. With cellular technology we have more avenues for accessing the Internet and communicating with each other.

Combining the instant results of the Internet with the high tech computers to explore it, we have so many new avenues to approach, new ways to do old things. Shopping on the Internet is one of these avenues. You can buy just about anything at this point without ever having to leave your home. You can read the news or even watch live TV if you want. One of the most important changes has been the introduction of Internet Marketing.

The way we connect to the Internet has changed. Originally connecting through phone lines which tied up our home phone service, our connection options evolved into a broad spectrum that now includes satellite technology, dedicated phone lines and cable. In a small span of time we have developed a system that can do everything for us in milliseconds of time.

We have come far. A growing number of us have grown up with this technological world and can imagine nothing else. I know it has affected me more deeply than I can imagine. Because I, who grew up in a simpler time, cannot imagine or envision life without technology and the Internet. It has made that much of an impact.

The Internet's future can only improve. There is no doubt we will improve with it.
